More Christmas stuff than Halloween stuff

I went to a local retail store and I couldn’t believe my eyes. They had about 5 times more Christmas stuff out than they did Halloween stuff and that even includes all the candy. Why is it that it seems every year they put the Christmas stuff out earlier and earlier? I guess they’re trying to catch people while they still have a little money hoping they’ll start their Christmas shopping early.

Well I don’t get my Christmas fund money until the middle of November so I couldn’t start shopping for Christmas if I wanted to yet. You know, I could start putting stuff on layaway. What am I saying? Here I was fussing and now I’m thinking of layaway. Shame on me!!

Impulse Purchases at the Check-out counters

One of the biggest reasons why I dislike taking kids shopping with me is the dreaded check-out counter trap. While waiting in line, or while checking out, the kids are bombarded visually with all kids of tempting candy or toys. The kids, already tired (and sometimes hungry) see these impulse purchase items and immediately start begging the parents to buy the candy or the toy. If the parent refuses to fall for this “buy now” trap, the kids often throw a temper tantrum. Nobody wants to see, or hear, kids throwing a temper tantrum, ever. The parents of the kids are tired from the shopping trip and just want to get out of the store, so they often give in to the begging.

This whole thing is a terrible trap for the parents, and is a very good reason to try to find a baby-sitter to take care of the kids while the parents go do the shopping.

New Tablet For Mommy

Today I’m going shopping for my very own tablet. I’m excited because my daughter loves using my smartphone and I’m sure she’ll love using a tablet even more. I love all of the different apps I can download and purchase on the new tablets. They are extremely user friendly.

I’m pretty sure I would like to get an IPad but I’m keeping an open mind and am going to check out the competition as well. I want to handle all of the different tablets before I make my final choice. I guess it’s kind of like taking a new car out for a test drive before deciding which one to buy.

Most of my friends have the IPad but some of the guys at work are using some of the other tablets out there and convinced me to at least give them a try. I can’t wait to see what they all offer and what kind of package deals I might be able to get.

Shopping online for musical instruments and accessories

When Jake told me that he was looking to buy a new guitar, I suggested that he do some of his comparison shopping online before actually committing to purchase the guitar. It is all well and good to go down to the mall and try out a few guitars, but sometimes the stores at the mall have a lot higher prices. Don’t get me wrong, I support local businesses as much as I can, but if you can save a hundred bucks or more of your own hard-earned money by shopping around for a few minutes, then I am all for it! And sometimes if you can prove that you can get a better deal somewhere, the local merchant will lower their price to match it. So I suggested to Jake that he check out the Guitar Center’s website and see what kind of prices they have before committing to a purchase. Shop smart and check around!

Coupon queen

I have turned into somewhat of a coupon queen. You have to do what ever it takes to make ends meet when you’re a single Mom on a limited income, you know what I mean. Every Sunday I get the paper for the coupons but I also check online anytime I plan on going shopping either for food or whatever. I love the online coupon sites. You can check each individual store from some sites and you can go to certain stores and they’ll allow you to print out coupons right from their web site. The best sites are the ones that offer discounts to several stores right on their web site.
