Tonight I visited one of my friend’s new home. She was having a house warming party. I brought her a basket filled with kitchen utensils and dish towels. I found some dish towels that had grapes and vines on them since she is doing her entire kitchen with a grape theme. They were a cream colored with purple and green grapes strewn about.
Anyway, what really excited me while I was at her house was her bathroom. It was absolutely gorgeous. She has one of the most stunning vessel sinks made of earth toned marble. Her counter tops where in a similar marble color. The flooring was a breathtaking tile that I wish I had in my house. It looked easy to clean and was probably heated too. I’ve always thought heated floors were fancy. All of the linens were a cream color with a brown accent stripe. The whole room looked warm and inviting in it’s natural tones.
The rest of her house was just a beautiful as the bathroom, but I just couldn’t get enough of how lovely even the guest bathroom was. Normally the big bucks are spent on the master bathrooms and not the guest baths. She’s one lucky woman to have that gorgeous home.
So, I mentioned before that the weeds in the corner of my back yard are just so darn stubborn and won’t go away. I did a little bit of research an this is what I’ve learned about weed removal.
I’ve been pulling the weeds up out of the ground. I’ve always been told to make sure I get the roots out; that’s why I pull the weeds. Well, just pulling the weeds out might not be enough. Apparently some weeds have a really long or a large cluster or roots. If I just pull them up I might break them and leave a bunch of the roots behind. This will cause them to grow back. To make sure I get all of the roots out a good solution is to use a spade and dig the entire root base out of the ground.
I guess I’ve been doing it wrong all these years. I had no idea at all. I now have a project for the rest of the weekend. Hopefully I manage to get all of the roots out and I’ll have a weed free backyard in no time.
I was going through a magazine as I sat in the doctor’s office this morning. I saw the most beautiful patios with gorgeous paving stone. The colors and designs were amazing. I think my favorite photo of the bunch was one showing a terracotta colored stone in an intricate star pattern. Each stone interlocked perfectly to form a seven pointed star or almost a flower design. It was rimmed with a contrasting deep chocolate color that gave the whole design a richness and made it look very expensive.
I’d love to have a patio like that at my house. I wonder how hard it would be to install patio pavers by myself. I bet I could save a bunch of money if I cut out the cost of labor and just paid for the materials. However, I’m not an expert at this kind of design, so I would probably be better off hiring a professional company to come out and do it for me. Then I would get to enjoy it all and not hurt myself in the process from lugging the stones around.
I wouldn’t stop with just paving my patio though. I would also have my driveway paved in a beautiful matching stone. I might as well go all out and have the whole front redone if I’m going to do it. I bet I could get that large star flower done on the patio and then maybe smaller versions of it as you drive up the driveway. Or, maybe doing just the opposite design would look better. I’d have to see a mock up or digital rendering of what the entire project would look like before I committed either way. I’m sure some companies provide a service like to help their customers visualize their dreams.
One of Ladybug’s friends wore the cutest little dress to school yesterday. Her mom made it all by hand. She said that she just looked at a picture and tried to match it the best she could. My favorite part about the dress are the straps. They are not your ordinary straps.
Instead of connecting in the front and back they are only attached in the front. I guess they are somewhat like a halter dress straps. Anyway, you don’t tie them like a halter dress but I suppose you could. There is a hole in the back to feed them through. Then once through the hole you tie the straps into a big bow. I thought it was absolutely adorable!
Sometimes when I see creative things like that I wonder why I never thought of doing something like that. It kind of makes me want to get a sewing machine and learn how to sew. I would love to be able to make new outfits for Ladybug all of time. I know she would love having something new and especially if she helped me pick out the patterns and materials. I bet I could find a decently priced sewing machine on Craigslist instead of investing a bunch of money into something I’m not sure I will really stick with.
It was pretty warm late this afternoon. Lady Bug and I needed a fun way to cool off. I turned on the sprinklers in our back yard and we put on our swim suits. Lady Bug and I had a blast running through the sprinklers. The lawn needed the extra water. I hate when the grass gets too dry so I figured it couldn’t hurt it.
We ran through the water for a good fifteen minutes. It felt great having the cool water splash up against our skin. It reminded me of when I was her age and would run outside in our sprinklers. By the time we were finished we were sopping wet and the grass had a good drink. Everyone was happy.
