A Big Mess

What a mess! Today I took Lady Bug out for a drive to see some of the neat Halloween decorations and she got car sick. She ended up vomiting all over the back seat. The car smelled awful. We just got this car and I was enjoying the new car smell and didn’t want the car to have a horrible stench so I looked up car carpet cleaning tips.

I knew that stomach acid is acidic so I would have to neutralized with something. After a bit of looking online I found a website that instructed me that baking soda or a mixture of club soda and water would help dilute the stain and remove the problem. I found that I could apply vinegar and blot the stain to help. Then repeat with a detergent. It also said not to scrub the stain because it might cause nap distortion of the carpet fiber. I really don’t want a big spot to look funny in the back seat so I made sure to follow the directions.

The stain is gone and the car smells fine again. I just hope Lady Bug doesn’t get sick again on our trip this weekend.

Making the Switch to Organic Online

I’ve been hearing a lot about genetically modified food and how it can be harmful to our health. Depending on where you are you may or may not see labels on your food about it containing GMOs. I’m moving more towards an organic diet for my family and this issue is becoming more and more important to me. I’ve decided to look into finding out how to buy organic food online. I do a lot of my shopping online now and if I can get safe food for my daughter and myself without having to leave the comfort of my own home that would be great.

I’m sure there are quite a few organic grocery stores online to chose from. Where I live the closest organic market is more than 50 miles away. I know I can purchase groceries from most popular chain grocery stores now days but I like to support individual family farmers when I can. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find a store online that is independently run by a family and doesn’t have any huge corporation ties.

I do like to buy from local people when I can but having the convenience of an online organic store just can’t be beat. I know I’ll have to spend money on the shipping and handling fees, but that is probably trivial compared to the amount I would have to spend in gas to go to the big popular organic market that is almost an hour away from where I live.

Organic food does tend to be a little more expensive than the non-organic versions. However, the value in organic food is that it is safe for your family and you don’t have to worry about what may or may not be lurking in your food.  I’m more than willing to invest in my family’s health by purchasing healthy food instead of paying large doctor bills because we chose to eat food that is not safe and contains GMOs.

Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Commercials for people to add a Medicare supplement insurance plan to their existing coverage are all over the television.  Every time I watch these commercials it makes me sad to think that the insurance that we get from the government it not complete.  Growing up I would have never have thought that I would need to buy any kind of supplemental coverage to my insurance plan.  It ticks me off a bit that these plans aren’t all inclusive and won’t take care of my every medical need.

Though peeved as I may be, I’m glad that companies have risen to the occasion and have seen the gap in health care coverage and are providing plans to help supplement what is offered through Medicare.  I have a ways off to go before I will be needing to really worry about finding plans like this for myself.  Retirement is no where near in my future.

Checking out Medical News Today is a great way to find out more about these kinds of plans and an avenue to stay current with today’s health news headlines.  I’m sure that website has plenty of visitors twice my age checking out what is best for them on a regular basis.

Crash, Boom, Bang!

This past week has been a real tough one. I was in a car accident. Some idiot side swiped me. My car was completely totaled. My daughter and I were heading to the grocery store when this guy came out of no where. He smashed into the driver side of my car.

My heart was racing and the  adrenaline was pouring into my system. All I wanted to know was if my daughter was ok. She was in the back, on the passenger side, buckled in to her car seat. She was screaming. I was able to look over my shoulder to see tears streaming down her little cheeks.

Thankfully she came out of it without any physical injuries. She was just traumatized from having the car smash in next to her.

Just a Pedi

Everyone is pinching pennies and that includes me. It seems like everything – especially gasoline – has gone high and my paycheck is not getting any bigger. So instead of getting a mani-pedi today, I have to get just one. So I’m getting a pedi and I’ll have to do my own fingernails at home. I can’t afford to do both and my feet need to look nice since it is summer and I’m wearing sandals and flip flops every day.
